Connect the Philips Hue motion sensor to your Philips Hue bridge via the Philips Hue app, and it will automatically turn on your Philips Hue lights when you enter a room. Perfect for your hallway, bathroom, basement or garage. You can choose in the app which scene or light setting should be triggered when motion is detected. The lights will turn off automatically, when there is no longer motion detected.
It's possible to set different light settings for day and night. During the day, the sensor can trigger crisp white light to help you see better. At night, it can turn on a gentle night light when you, your partner or child gets out of bed. Just enough to help you navigate in the dark, without waking up the rest of the family.
Thanks to an integrated daylight sensor, your lights only turn on when it's needed. You can easily change the light sensitivity in the Philips Hue app, so the sensor only triggers when you need that bit of extra light. When no more motion is detected, the lights dim down before they automatically switch off after a selected time. The motion sensor also helps you to save energy by automatically turning off lights in areas that aren’t being used.
The motion sensor is battery powered, so completely wireless and easy to install anywhere in your home. Setting it up is done in a matter of minutes. Simply put it on a shelf, side table, or mount it to a wall or ceiling using the included screw. You can even attach it to metal surfaces such as your fridge, with the included magnet. You can easily adjust the detection angle by turning the sensor in the right direction.
"You can connect up to 50 lights and various accessories to the Philips Hue bridge. Simply start with any of the available starter kits or a single bridge and start adding Philips Hue products. You can then control your lights at the swipe of a finger with the Philips Hue app, Hue controls such as the Hue dimmer swtich, Hue Tap and the Hue motion sensor. Philips Hue is based on ZigBee, a low power and reliable technology to control your lights. New features and improvements are continuously added to the system. Updates to both software and firmware are done wirelessly and seamlessly directly to your Philips Hue product."

How many Hue motion sensors can I connect to my Hue system?
The number of Hue motion sensors which can be connected is depending on the number of the already installed accessories like Hue taps and Hue dimmer switches. If you do not have other accessories connected to the bridge, you can connect up to 12 Hue motion sensors.
What is the out of the box, default behavior of the Hue motion sensor?
The default behavior of the Hue motion sensor is automatically defined during setup, the only thing you need to select is the room during installation with the Philips Hue app (2.4 or higher).
Each room type has smart default settings defined to ensure the best experience with the Hue motion sensor for that type of room.
Each of these default settings can be easily personalized using the Philips Hue app.
By default, when you enter the room, all lights in the room turn on to a bright functional light during the day and a nightlight during the night. Both the timeframes and scenes can be easily personalized using the Philips Hue app.
By default, the lights in a room turn off when there is no motion detected for the time-out period defined per type of room. This period can be personalized using the Philips Hue app.
The lights dim 30 seconds before the lights turn off, to prevent that you are sitting in the dark all of a sudden, when you are not moving or are out of detection range of the sensor. Within these 30 seconds you can move which will restore the lights to the same setting as before dimming, this will automatically restart the time-out period. The 30 seconds cannot be adapted using the Philips Hue app.
What is the detection range and angle of the Hue motion sensor?
The Hue motion sensor has an average detection range of 5 meter and a detection angle of 100 degrees in both horizontal and vertical direction. For optimal motion detection, position the sensor so your movement is perpendicular to the sensor viewing direction.
How can I test the best placement and orientation for the Hue motion sensor in my room?
During installation, the Philips Hue app illustrates a placement example for the type of room you select. In order to try proper placement, please open the Philips Hue app Accessory setup select your sensor, select motion sensitivity and the App will start the sensor test mode. The test mode allows you to instantly see feedback if the sensor detects you by checking the LED indicator on the sensor and/or App screen.
The LED on the Hue motion sensor sensor will light up when motion is detected, and turn off when there is no motion detected for more than 5 seconds.
The test mode will remain active until you exit the "motion sensitivity" screen.
What does daylight sensitivity screen do?
The daylight sensitivity screen allows you to adapt the level of daylight that you think is enough not to switch on the lights, helping you to save energy.
The App screen indicates if the sensor will be active or inactive with the daylight that is currently measured by the integrated daylight sensor so you can adapt accordingly.
What does the motion sensitivity screen do?
The motion sensitivity screen allows you to adapt the sensitivity to motion to match your personal situation.
- High means, full range, maximum sensitivity (default setting).
- Low means, reduced range and less sensitive for small movements. (e.g. you need to walk past the sensor instead of sitting on the couch and only moving your arm)
- Medium is in between High & Low |
